FAQ2024-08-07T14:54:05-07:00
How much does shipping cost?2024-08-07T13:01:59-07:00
  • Your shipping cost varies depending on the volume and dollar amount of your order. A small order of one pound or under, sent by USPS Priority, could run as low as $7.00. A larger order, or an oversized shipment, sent by other expedited methods, or sent to a remote delivery point could run much more.
  • Factors that may affect shipping costs include:
    • Remote or rural delivery locations
    • Oversized or heavy items
    • Expedited delivery methods
  • You will have the opportunity to see exact rates before completing payment for an order.
Can I get free shipping?2024-08-07T13:02:19-07:00
  • We realize that shipping costs can add up, however we keep our item prices honest rather than pad those prices to cover shipping. If you subscribe to our emails or follow us on socials, watch there for occasional discounted shipping offers.
  • We do offer a discounted flat rate shipping option to the six county local area around Lexington. If you are close-by but want to avoid driving to us for order pickup, we always offer that discounted rate.
Can I change my shipping address after I’ve ordered?2024-08-07T13:03:20-07:00
  • If your order has not yet shipped from our location, you may call or email to reroute a shipment. While we will try to honor those requests, we can not guarantee that every package can be rerouted due to carrier pickup or other unforeseen event. Contact as soon as you can to ensure that rerouting can be done.
When will my shipment arrive?2024-08-07T13:03:41-07:00
  • Your order will be processed the same or next day. If there is any customization such as engraving, orders usually take an extra day or two for items to be completed and made ready for shipping. Once all items are ready to be packaged and shipped, you can usually expect 2 to 3 days delivery time for most carriers’ typical shipping methods (USPS Priority or UPS Ground). If a rush is needed, faster shipping methods can be chosen, and we will do our best to move your order along and get it in the hands of the carrier of your choice quickly.
Can I track my shipment?2024-08-07T13:04:06-07:00
  • Soon after your order is completed, you will receive an Order Completed email with a tracking number. Click the link to get up-to-date status. Contact us if you have further inquiries.
Why hasn’t my order shipped yet?2024-08-07T13:04:25-07:00
  • If your order includes any of our handmade items or personalized engraving, there is usually a processing time of an extra day or two. We make every effort to move orders through our shop quickly, but some items take 1 to 2 days or longer to complete. We do custom work correctly, rather than rushed!
  • If one of our suppliers is slow to resupply our stock, we try to notify you of any delay. Your order can be amended or changed if delivery time will not meet your needs.
Do you ship internationally?2024-08-07T13:05:09-07:00
  • We ship to most countries serviced by UPS or the US Postal Service. Some item restrictions may apply and an order may have to be modified after the order is placed. A shipment generally is routed through US customs to be cleared for export. If sent through the USPS, they will partner with other services such as the destination country’s national postal service or, in some cases, a private carrier such as FedEx or UPS. If sent through a private carrier such as UPS, they usually handle the package all the way to the destination. Your package must be cleared for import by your country’s customs service. You, as the recipient, are responsible for any duty or customs charges. Often times, such fees must be paid to the customs authorities in advance before the package is cleared for delivery.
What products can I return? What products can I exchange?2024-08-07T13:05:34-07:00
  • You can return most items at your expense for either exchange or a credit to your original method of payment.
  • There is a no-return exception for our custom made or engraved leather goods.
    • We only do exchanges for an incorrect belt size between sizes 32 and 48.
    • The belt must be returned to us in brand new shape.
    • Please handle the belt gently when trying it on and don’t force it to fit if it won’t.
    • A belt that has been excessively creased when trying on, even if never actually worn, can not be exchanged.
  • If you have specific issues with returning an item from an order, please contact us.
How can I exchange my belt that doesn’t fit?2024-08-07T13:47:41-07:00
How can I exchange my dog collar that doesn’t fit?2024-08-07T13:10:22-07:00

Most dog collars can be returned for size exchange. We can move the engraved plate to a collar that does fit. There is an associated charge of $8.50 to move the personalized nameplate to a correctly sized collar, plus any return shipping costs. Please ensure that the collar is returned in brand-new, resaleable condition.

I need to fix a spelling order on my custom order. Can I fix it?2024-08-07T13:10:57-07:00

Once your order is placed online, you will need to contact us offline to attempt to change part of the order. Often, engraving is done in-house on the same day the order is placed. If the plate is already made, any spelling changes would need to be charged for a new plate. Click CONTACT in the horizontal menu at the top of most all pages of our website and choose an appropriate method of contact that works for you. Please contact Fennell’s promptly to avoid the cost of another plate.

Do I need the original receipt?2024-08-07T14:24:01-07:00

No, an original receipt is not required. Most returns that Fennell’s receives are accompanied by a copy of the receipt, but even a note referencing at least the name on the order or Order number will assist in locating the original order so that an exchange or credit can be made.

What is the cost for return shipping?2024-08-07T13:12:05-07:00

If you need to return an item, you are responsible for the cost of getting it delivered to us so that a credit can be issued. Use your best judgement for shipping carrier and service level, based perhaps on the item’s value. We receive returns from time-to-time from UPS, the USPS and FedEx. USPS Ground Advantage is probably the most cost-effective service level.

How do I measure for a leather belt size?2024-08-07T13:12:22-07:00

Please see details here.

Be advised of these caveats when figuring size.

  • Using an old belt with a size marked on the back will rarely be accurate.
    • Our belts are stamped behind the keeper, but leather will give a bit and our belts can stretch up to an inch; even more for a well-worn work belt.
    • Store-bought belts with a size printed on the back could be referencing waist size; a belt made using that info just won’t fit.
  • Pants sizes these days aren’t always stated accurately, so telling Fennell’s that “…they wear 34″ pants…” can’t always be relied on.
  • Don’t measure from end-of-leather to end-of-leather. We can’t use that information at all.

The only truly accurate way is to measure an existing belt as shown in the diagram on the link above.

How do I measure for a dog collar size?2024-08-07T13:12:39-07:00
  • Using a tape measure (or even a string that you can then measure with a straight ruler), measure around the dog’s neck. Don’t cinch it skin tight; rather, leave it loose enough to hang, but not so loose that your dog could pull out of the collar. Give us that measurement without adding anything. Fennell’s makes Flat collars from 10″ to 24″, Raised collars from 15″ to 24″ and Rolled collars from 12″ to 24″. The width of the leather varies from narrow half-inch collars for small neck sizes to one-inch wide collars for larger necks.
  • Of course, how you measure will determine a successful fit. Thick coats on some dogs’ necks come into play, and you should adjust your measurement for how you want the collar to hang.
How do I measure for a leather bracelet?2024-08-07T13:12:58-07:00
  • Simply measure the wrist as follows. Using a tape measure, measure the circumference around your wrist. Don’t pull the tape skin-tight, nor let it be loose enough to pull over your hand. Just a comfortable loop. Give us that measurement without adding anything. Wrist measurements typically range from 6.5 inches on the very small end to 8 inches on the large end – quite a narrow range!
Where is your leather from?2024-08-07T13:13:19-07:00

When sourcing our leather, we strive for consistency. We’ve found that consistency in three major suppliers;

  • One being a tannery in Pennsylvania who supplies Fennell’s with a fine grade of vegetable-tanned bridle leather hides that are used in all our belts and personalized leather goods.
  • Another primary source is a Kentucky-based distributor for a state-of-the-art tanning facility in Mexico who processes primarily US steer hides. This great source supplies Fennell’s with vegetable-tanned skirting leather for use in our halters, as well as veg tanned bridle leather for a myriad of work tack and training equipment that Fennell’s  manufactures.
  • Our Fennell-branded English-made show bridlework is cut from English-tanned Sedgewick bridle leather. Fennell’s has been importing these finished strapgoods from the same principal supplier for over 50 years. Again, you’ll find quality in consistency!
How is your leather processed?2024-08-07T13:13:35-07:00

There are two typical ways that leather can be processed, or tanned.

  • Chrome tanning is one way to tan leather, typically resulting in garment leathers such as suede, used for chaps. The leather is usually resistant to water and heat, but the use of chromium sulfate makes its production a bigger tax on the environment.
  • Vegetable-tanned leather is all we use in our manufacturing process. Natural tannins from plant materials are used to tan green hides into the Skirting Leather or Bridle Leather that you’ll find on most all of our Fennell-made leather products. It’s is a slower tanning process that results in a stiffer, denser leather that accepts water more readily. This enables us to wet, bend and shape the straps we cut from full hides into anything… from our nicest halters and rolled dog collars, to simple repair parts. A well-cared-for product made from vegetable-tanned leather will typically last longer.
What other brands do you carry?2024-10-16T19:22:27-07:00

Do you have replacement parts and hardware?2024-08-07T13:14:12-07:00

Yes!

  • For our halters, we sell easily replaceable parts such as double-buckle crowns, adjustable chin straps and bolt pieces. Find them at  Halter Accessories.
  • We have a variety of replacement hardware that we use in our manufacturing, including parts such as split rivets for attaching nameplates. If you don’t see it on our website, contact us at info@fennells.com.
How do I cancel an order?2024-08-07T13:14:36-07:00

Usually, we are able to cancel an order if we are notified within the first 24 hours. Some orders ship same day, other orders need to have items customized, such as engraving or belt sizing. Once a customized item has been made, we are unable to cancel that part of the order. Once the goods are boxed to leave, we are unable to cancel. You would need to go through the return process once the items are received. Please take time to check your shopping cart details before completing your order to avoid the need for a change. Thanks!

I forgot to order an item. How can I add on to a recent order?2024-08-07T13:25:11-07:00

Once your order is placed online, you will need to contact us offline to attempt to add, edit or delete part of the order. We will make every attempt to “gang” any additional items together with an already-placed order, thus saving you shipping costs. Simply click CONTACT in the horizontal menu at the top of most all pages of our website and choose an appropriate method of contact that works for you.
